Choosing the right coach can be a daunting task with so many options available. However, it is often said “track record speaks,” and the first thing to consider when selecting a coach is their alumni record or the success of the students they’ve taught. Testimonials are also crucial in understanding the quality of coaching provided.
Never be afraid to go to great lengths or travel great distances to train with the right coach.
International recording superstar Celina Sharma, for example, traveled weekly by plane from Sydney to Melbourne to attend multiple lessons with me from the age of 12, and she continues to train with us to this day. Similarly, Isaiah Firebrace, the winner of X Factor 2017, would take a six-hour round-trip train ride every Saturday to train with Lynn and me for several years, often doing multiple classes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Today, we train several local and international artists online, which saves time and money.
The right coach is passionate, motivates their students, goes the extra mile, and understands that building a champion is a holistic process—encompassing mind, body, and spirit. This has always been our philosophy.
A great coach is a master strategist who understands the importance of building the uniqueness and brand of each student, picks the right songs, protects the singer’s voice, and knows when and how to stretch the student. It’s also about choosing the right vocal scales at the right time.
A great coach is like a master chef. They know how to build each artist from the ground up, understanding that no two students are the same and knowing how to put together just the right ingredients to help the student improve and grow.
