I am beyond excited to introduce this new project, “Singing the Art of the Heart.” After decades of legacy-building in the voices, hearts, and minds of thousands of students, along with countless art pieces sold globally in private homes, galleries, and various venues, this truly feels like our finest hour.

Many years ago, despite years of training and voice lessons, I developed vocal nodules — the biggest nightmare for any singer.

In life, as in the music industry, we are all brand builders. Think about the greatest artists in the world — they all possess a sound, style, and image that are distinctly their own. They stand out because they have discovered their unique voice and made it their brand.

Our greatest passion, calling, and gift have always been coaching and mentoring others, and we are committed to continuing this journey online, with my beautiful and talented wife, Zafiro, by my side.

My season at The Australian National Theatre under the mentorship of Joan Harris (OAM) changed the trajectory of my whole life and singing career.

Over the years, in developing several stars, we have used a term called “box breaking” to help empower singers to go to the next level. In the performing arts community, there could be different terms used for this with the same intent and goals.

Unfortunately, this type of mindset is rarely taught in schools, a point highlighted by Robert Kiyosaki in his controversial yet insightful book, If You Want to Be Rich and Happy, Don’t Go to School. Extraordinary thinking is what separates elite performers from the average or even the very good.

Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” So many of the world’s superstars have had their foundation in gospel music—Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston, Justin Bieber, Patti LaBelle, most of the African American singers, and hundreds of others.

One of the lesser-discussed but impactful aspects of a singer’s health is the menstrual cycle and its influence on vocal performance. Internationally acclaimed vocal coach Zafiro Fernandez shares her insights on managing the voice in sync with these natural rhythms, helping female singers stay confident and in control of their instrument.
